After the whole shutdown fiasco, as yall may know, I've moved elsewhere.  This Xanga is officially defunct.

Goodbye graceberrie, my xanga for the past 3 years!

But one good thing can come out of your visit here...

It's Google, but you can win stuff just by searching.  Check it out: Blingo

SB!

Instead of being like this:

... I'll be in New Orleans with BSM folks from Rice and UH (40 people total), mudding-out houses & stripping down the walls.  Leaving today (Saturday), coming back on Wednesday.

I bought 3 outfits from a thrift store so that I can throw my clothes away @ the end of each day - 3 pairs of large, frumpy, tapered-leg, 50-year-old-lady jeans included!  I'm sure everyone will envy my fashion sense =)  Ooooh mama. This is pretty much what I'll look like on the bottom:

So Joe won't have to worry about me looking too "fetching" - oh it'll be the opposite. I won't be making anyone stumble....cuz tapered jeans + sweat + mud hot stuff!

Yeah so I'm excited because for once I'll be doing something to help others instead of just being lazy during SB... but I'm also kind of apprehensive because I'm not used to manual labor, I'm a wuss.

Anyway, please pray for our group to be safe, work hard, and glorify God during the next 5 days.

Have a good spring break everyone =)

A lot has been on my mind this past week.

Now I know why.

I've changed a lot during the past year. I didn't realize how much I'd changed until recently. But that change wasn't enough. For example, I'd been operating under the assumption that after graduating in May of next year, I'd go straight into grad school at Rice in the fall, and sometime afterwards I'd get married.

Well, that's not up to me. It may happen... but it may not. All this turmoil has been because I've still been clinging to my own plans and desires.

James 1:22-25
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.

I will stumble, I will hesitate, I will doubt, I will fear,  but God will pick me up and keep me going.

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

I surrender.

Iran to hang teenage girl attacked by rapists
Sat. 07 Jan 2006

Iran Focus

Tehran, Iran, Jan. 07 – An Iranian court has sentenced a teenage rape victim to death by hanging after she weepingly confessed that she had unintentionally killed a man who had tried to rape both her and her niece.

The state-run daily Etemaad reported on Saturday that 18-year-old Nazanin confessed to stabbing one of three men who had attacked the pair along with their boyfriends while they were spending some time in a park west of the Iranian capital in March 2005.

Nazanin, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, said that after the three men started to throw stones at them, the two girls’ boyfriends quickly escaped on their motorbikes leaving the pair helpless.

She described how the three men pushed her and her 16-year-old niece Somayeh onto the ground and tried to rape them, and said that she took out a knife from her pocket and stabbed one of the men in the hand.

As the girls tried to escape, the men once again attacked them, and at this point, Nazanin said, she stabbed one of the men in the chest. The teenage girl, however, broke down in tears in court as she explained that she had no intention of killing the man but was merely defending herself and her younger niece from rape, the report said.

The court, however, issued on Tuesday a sentence for Nazanin to be hanged to death.

Last week, a court in the city of Rasht, northern Iran, sentenced Delara Darabi to death by hanging charged with murder when she was 17 years old. Darabi has denied the charges.

In August 2004, Iran’s Islamic penal system sentenced a 16-year-old girl, Atefeh Rajabi, to death after a sham trial, in which she was accused of committing “acts incompatible with chastity”.

The teenage victim had no access to a lawyer at any stage and efforts by her family to retain one were to no avail. Atefeh personally defended herself and told the religious judge that he should punish those who force women into adultery, not the victims. She was eventually hanged in public in the northern town of Neka.
